The Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Information Technology (UniKL MIIT) Alumni Chapter strengthened its commitment to women’s empowerment and community well-being through the Seminar Kesejahteraan Insaniah Wanita: Kesihatan Fizikal, Emosi dan Keseimbangan Kehidupan, held on 15 August 2026 at Universiti Malaya.
Organised by the UniKL MIIT Alumni Association (UMAC), the one-day seminar brought together approximately 50 women from diverse backgrounds, including students, university graduates, educators, healthcare workers, public and private sector employees, entrepreneurs, retirees and homemakers.
The programme provided participants with practical knowledge on physical and emotional well-being, stress management, self-leadership, work-life balance and personal safety — areas increasingly important in supporting women as resilient individuals, family members and active contributors to their communities.
Led by Programme Director and UniKL alumna, Ella Royantty Ruslan, the seminar featured a session by Dr Shafiq Sahimi on emotional well-being, stress management and self-leadership.
Participants also took part in a basic women’s self-defence session facilitated by Wan Zulfaqqar Wan Zin, a UniKL alumnus and UMAC Executive Committee member for Lifestyle, Sport and Recreation. The practical session equipped participants with fundamental awareness and skills to strengthen personal safety and confidence.

Ella said the programme was inspired by the challenges many women face in managing emotional pressure, mental fatigue and multiple responsibilities in their personal, professional and family lives.
“Although we faced financial and venue limitations, I am grateful that the cooperation and commitment of the entire team enabled us to successfully organise the seminar. For me, the real success lies in seeing the knowledge and experiences shared benefit the participants and encourage them to value their health, well-being and personal safety,” she said.
The programme was supported by UMAC President and UniKL alumnus Khairul Anwar Md Yatim, alongside alumni committee members Wan Zulfaqqar and Nazatul Nadiah Jasmine, UMAC Executive Committee member for Special Functions.
The seminar concluded with a closing ceremony and certificate presentation by Claudia Rabiah Anak Gurhka, representing the Department of Women’s Development (Jabatan Pembangunan Wanita) under the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development.
Beyond improving participants’ awareness of physical and emotional health, the programme encouraged self-reflection, confidence and resilience while providing skills that could be applied in everyday situations. The diversity of participants also highlighted how challenges surrounding emotional well-being, life balance and self-care cut across different professions and stages of life.
Through alumni-led initiatives such as this, Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) demonstrates how alumni engagement can extend beyond professional networking to create meaningful social and community impact, while supporting lifelong learning and the empowerment of communities.
The initiative contributes particularly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-being by promoting emotional and physical wellness, and SDG 5: Gender Equality through the development of women’s confidence, leadership and personal safety skills.
