Fondly nicknamed MSI El Matador, the Kedah-based campus dominated the tournament, securing an impressive haul of medals.
UniKL MSI’s athletes displayed exceptional determination throughout the sports carnival, securing seven gold medals, two silvers, and five bronzes, resulting in a grand total of 14 medals.
Not far behind, the runners-up position was clinched by UniKL Business School (UBIS) Beast, which secured a total of 13 medals, climbing one spot from their previous performance in the 16th USSC.
The third spot was claimed by UniKL Malaysian Institute of Industrial Technology (UniKL MITEC) Southern Hunter, which had an outstanding performance this year.
The team’s remarkable feat was achieved through gold medal victories in Men’s Futsal, Men’s Volleyball, Sepak Takraw, and Rugby 7’s.
Apart from basking in the glory of defending their title, UniKL MSI was rewarded with a substantial RM50,000 winning purse to support the development of sports on campus.
While UniKL MSI celebrated their victory, the six-time former champions, UniKL Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (MIAT) Dragons, found themselves unable to reclaim the title and settled for the fourth spot, just ahead of UniKL Malaysian Institute of Marine Engineering Technology (UniKL MIMET) Hammerhead.
The closing ceremony was graced by the Director General of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), YBhg. Dato’ Sri Azhar Abdul Manaf, with the presence of the Deputy Director General (Education) of MARA, YBhg. Encik Razlan Haji Samsuri; Group Chief Executive Officer of MARA Corporation Sdn Bhd, YBhg. Dato’ Julainie Mohd Salleh; Covering President/Chief Executive Officer of UniKL, YBhg. Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Azman Senin; Deputy President (Student Development and Campus Lifestyle) of UniKL, YBhg. Prof. Ts. Dr. Zalizah Awang Long; Deputy President of UniKL (Academic & Technology), YBhg. Prof. Dr. Kushsairy Abdul Kadir; Director of UniKL’s Campus Lifestyle Division (CLD), Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Izuddin Fahmy Abu; and the Dean of UniKL MFI, Dr. Tengku Mohd Azahar Tuan Dir.
Looking ahead, UniKL MIMET has been chosen as the host for next year’s 18th edition of the games. For the record, the 17th USSC was hosted by UniKL MFI from July 16th to 20th.
