Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (UniKL MIAT) made history after its Skuad Panglima Udara successfully defended the Overall Men’s IPT Champion title at the 11th Kejohanan Waja Diri PSSCM IPT & Jemputan.
They became the first team to secure back-to-back championships in the competition.
Held on 7 and 8 August 2026 at the Azman Hashim USM Sports Arena, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Pulau Pinang, the championship saw the UniKL MIAT team secure two gold medals in Categories 1 and 2, a bronze medal in Category 3, and the overall Men’s IPT championship title.
The victory marks another milestone for Persatuan Seni Silat Cekak Malaysia (PSSCM) UniKL MIAT after the team first captured the championship at the 10th edition.
By retaining the title at the 11th edition, the team demonstrated the consistency, discipline and resilience behind UniKL MIAT’s growing record of student achievement and co-curricular excellence.
The competing squad comprised UniKL MIAT students, alumni and an industry participant, reflecting a strong connection between the university community and its graduates working in Malaysia’s aviation sector.

Representing UniKL MIAT were Bachelor of Aircraft Engineering Technology students Akmal Daniel Ahmad Syahir, Muhammad Wazif Azman and Akmal Hakimi Ahmad, alongside Muhammad Khairee Izzuddeen Ismail, a Bachelor of Aircraft Engineering Technology in Mechanical student.
They were joined by Diploma of Engineering Technology students Muhammad Haiqal Zafran Mohd Zulkarnean from Aeroplane Maintenance and Ahmad Nazhan Nazim from Avionics.
The team also featured UniKL MIAT alumni Muhamad Aiman Zulkepli of Airod Techno Power Sdn Bhd, Khairul Zhafri Adli Hamzah of Sepang Aircraft Engineering Sdn Bhd, and Wan Afiq Amirul Wan Zulkarnain of Asian Pacific Aircraft Component Services Sdn Bhd, as well as Mohamad Danial Aqil Mohd Swalitan of Malaysia Airlines Sdn Bhd.
Diploma of Engineering Technology in Avionics student Nur Zul’ashmyn Mohd Zulfaizal served as team manager.
Three members entered the competition without previous experience in PSSCM demonstration events. As defending champions, they faced considerable expectations, including performing during the opening ceremony before the PSSCM Guru Utama, VVIPs and participating teams.

UniKL MIAT alumnus and Team Commandant Khairul Zhafri Adli Hamzah said the significance of the championship went beyond securing medals.
“This tournament is unique. While one team will be crowned champion, every participant walks away a winner. It teaches our students that the journey, struggles, lessons, sacrifices and moments that shape us along the way are far more meaningful than the final objective of winning.”

The team received guidance and support from PSSCM UniKL MIAT advisers Jamaludin Asmuni, a UniKL MIAT technical staff member, and Dr Nuraliza Norawzi, Senior Lecturer at UniKL MIAT, together with supervisor Ts. Rostam Hamzah, the PSSCM UniKL MIAT management team and its coaches.
The achievement supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being through active participation in sports and physical development, and SDG 4: Quality Education through experiential learning, character development, teamwork and student leadership beyond the classroom.
