Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Spanish Institute (UniKL MSI) reclaimed the overall championship title at the 20th UniKL Student Sports Carnival (USSC 2026), finishing at the top of the medal standings with six gold, four silver and three bronze medals.
The victory marked UniKL MSI’s fourth overall USSC title, following its three consecutive championships in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
UniKL Business School placed second with five gold, three silver and two bronze medals, while UniKL Malaysian Institute of Information Technology (UniKL MIIT) secured third place with four gold, eight silver and three bronze medals.
The carnival concluded on 15 July 2026 at Dewan Gemilang, UniKL British Malaysian Institute (UniKL BMI) in Gombak.
Hosted by UniKL BMI in collaboration with UniKL’s Student Development and Campus Lifestyle (SDCL) sector, USSC 2026 brought together more than 1,476 athletes, 456 officials and almost 200 volunteers from UniKL’s 12 campuses.
Participants competed in 13 sports comprising 28 categories, including football, futsal, netball, badminton, basketball, tennis, petanque, rugby sevens, bowling, volleyball, table tennis, chess and sepak takraw.
The closing ceremony was officiated by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) Director-General YBhg. Dato’ Seri Zulfikri Osman and attended by senior representatives from MARA, MARA Corporation and UniKL, as well as campus leaders, student representatives, athletes, officials and volunteers.
In his closing address, Dato’ Seri Zulfikri highlighted the role of university sports in developing graduates who are balanced academically, physically, mentally and emotionally.
He said participation in sports helps students strengthen essential graduate attributes such as discipline, leadership, time management, teamwork, communication and resilience—qualities that are equally important in professional and organisational settings.
The annual carnival also provides a platform for students from different UniKL campuses to build friendships, strengthen campus connections and develop a shared sense of identity under the spirit of “We Are UniKL.”
Another milestone at USSC 2026 was the introduction of UniKL’s official sports team name, logo and mascot in conjunction with MARA’s 60th anniversary.
Developed through a design competition held from 1 April to 25 May 2026, the new identity will represent UniKL at national-level sporting competitions, beginning with the Sukan Institusi Pendidikan Tinggi (SUKIPT), in August 2026.
The unified sports identity is expected to strengthen UniKL’s institutional branding, enhance recognition among stakeholders and create a stronger sense of pride among student-athletes representing the university nationally.
USSC 2026 supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being through the promotion of active and healthy lifestyles, and SDG 4: Quality Education through experiential learning and holistic student development.
