As Malaysia’s leading national technical university, Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Sabah through a strategic partnership with the state government.
This collaboration was formalised through a Letter of Intent (LoI) exchanged with the Jabatan Pembangunan Sumber Manusia (JPSM) Sabah, marking the beginning of future cooperation in skills development, training, and knowledge transfer.
The LoI exchange took place on 18 October during the TVET Innovation Competition and Oil & Gas Career Fair 2025 in Sabah.

UniKL was represented by its President/Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Ir. Dr. Azman Senin, and Director of the UniKL WorldSkills & Teaching Factory, Mr. Mohd Zaki Mohamed, while JPSM Sabah was represented by its Director, Puan Kamsiah Ibrahim.
The agreement paves the way for joint academic initiatives, including industrial training placements, on-the-job training (OJT), short courses, and the development of new academic programmes aligned with both national and state industrial needs.
Following the LoI signing, both parties agreed to establish a follow-up plan for the implementation of selected programmes, including the Bachelor of Engineering Technology (BET) in Welding and Quality Inspection and the Diploma in Engineering Technology (DET) in Welding.
In addition, UniKL and JPSM Sabah will explore the introduction of a new Water Engineering Technology programme and the potential organisation of the WorldSkills Malaysia University Challenge (WSMUC) in conjunction with the Sabah Skills Competition 2026.

Beyond the LoI exchange, UniKL’s participation in the event reflects its continuous efforts to strengthen partnerships with state-level agencies and industry stakeholders in East Malaysia.
This initiative reinforces UniKL’s mission to advance Malaysia’s national TVET agenda by expanding academic opportunities and fostering innovation-driven collaboration.
For the record, the event was jointly organised by JPSM Sabah and Kimanis Petroleum Training Centre (KTC) PETRONAS, to promote innovation among TVET institutions in Sabah and enhance youth employability in the Oil & Gas (O&G) sector.
The fair featured 29 exhibition booths from major O&G companies and participating TVET institutions, offering a wide range of academic and technical programmes.
