The Kuala Lumpur International Summit on Sustainable Future (KLSF 2025) marks only the beginning of Universiti Kuala Lumpur’s (UniKL) wider efforts to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Welcoming more than 500 participants from 20 countries, including Indonesia, the Philippines, Kazakhstan, India, and Thailand, KLSF 2025 underscores UniKL’s dedication to driving research and innovation that address pressing sustainability challenges.

“I am proud to see the summit’s spotlight on inclusive, community-based research and innovation, from clean energy and halal technology to TVET training and rural digitalisation. These are not abstract ideas; they are critical enablers that directly support livelihoods, elevate quality of life, and strengthen national resilience.

“KLSF 2025 also reflects the spirit of collaboration reaffirmed during the ASEAN Summit 2025, where member states emphasised the need for growth that is both inclusive and sustainable,” said the Chairman of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), YBhg. Datuk Wira Dr. Asyraf Wajdi Dato’ Dusuki, in his officiating speech at the Connexion Conference & Event Centre on 2 September 2025.

Also present were the Chairman of UniKL, YB Dato’ Sri Sh Mohmed Puzi Sh Ali, and UniKL President/Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Ir. Dr. Azman Senin.

Under the national MADANI framework and the upcoming 13th Malaysia Plan, rural empowerment has become a cornerstone of Malaysia’s development agenda.

Adding to this, Datuk Wira Dr. Asyraf Wajdi highlighted that with over RM12 billion allocated to rural development initiatives this year alone, covering infrastructure, digital connectivity, entrepreneurship, and education, the government is making it clear that no community should be left behind in the pursuit of progress.

With the theme “Leaving No One Behind: Advancing the SDGs for a Sustainable Future,” KLSF 2025 brings together 10 conferences, complemented by plenary forums, research presentations, innovation exhibitions, and showcases.

Held from 2 to 3 September 2025, the summit serves as a platform for dialogue and knowledge exchange with leading experts, including members of the World’s Top 2% Scientists, Prof. Dr. Shyy Woie Chang from Taiwan’s National Cheng Kung University and Prof. Dr. Mohamad Aljofan from Nazarbayev University, Kazakhstan.
