Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Chemical and Bioengineering Technology (UniKL MICET) brought together 12 promising young finalists from more than 80 participants for the JuniorSkills Malaysia (JSM) 2026 Final Competition in Chemical Laboratory Technology.
This directly reinforces UniKL MICET’s role in advancing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and nurturing future-ready talent in Malaysia.
Held from 11 to 12 August 2026 at UniKL MICET, Melaka, the two-day competition provided young participants with the opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities in an authentic laboratory environment while gaining valuable exposure to industry-oriented practices.
The finalists represented six schools from Melaka and Johor: MRSM Muar, SMK Munshi Abdullah, SM Imtiaz Ulul Albab Melaka, SMK Dato’ Dol Said, SMK Seri Pengkalan and SM Teknik Johor Bahru.
Across four challenging competition modules, participants put their knowledge of Chemical Laboratory Technology into practice, demonstrating technical competency, laboratory skills, accuracy, discipline and systematic working practices.

The competition also tested essential workplace competencies including precision, time management, problem-solving and strict adherence to laboratory safety procedures.
Using UniKL MICET’s fully equipped analytical chemistry laboratory facilities, the finalists experienced a professional and industry-oriented environment that helped connect classroom learning with real-world laboratory applications.
The hands-on experience was designed to strengthen participants’ confidence and develop competencies relevant to future careers in science, technology and laboratory-related fields.
By hosting the JuniorSkills Malaysia 2026 Final Competition, UniKL MICET further demonstrated its commitment to TVET education, technical skills development and industry-ready graduate competencies.
The programme brought together stakeholders including Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran (JPK), Kementerian Sumber Manusia (KESUMA), Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri (JPN) and participating schools, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening skills development and cultivating the next generation of TVET talent.
The initiative aligns particularly with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education through skills-based learning and educational opportunities, and SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth through the development of employment-relevant technical competencies.
It also supports SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure by exposing young talents to laboratory technology and applied scientific practices, while engagement among government agencies, educational institutions and schools contributes to SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
