Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) celebrates a proud alumni milestone following the appointment of Ir. Dr. Mahzan Teh, a UniKL alumnus and member of the UniKL Board of Directors, as the new Director-General of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), effective 25 September 2026.
The appointment was also announced across MARA-related organisations and UniKL’s official channels.
His appointment carries added significance for the UniKL community as he becomes the first UniKL alumnus to serve as MARA Director-General, marking a notable achievement for the University’s growing alumni network and leadership footprint.
Ir. Dr. Mahzan graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in Management from UniKL Business School (UniKL BIS).
His academic journey at UniKL reflects the university’s role in developing professionals and leaders who contribute to Malaysia’s education, technical and socioeconomic development ecosystem.
Prior to his latest appointment, Ir. Dr. Mahzan served as Deputy Director-General (Education) of MARA, where his portfolio placed him closely within MARA’s education ecosystem.
He was involved in shaping the strategic direction of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), including efforts to strengthen high-impact skills, programme sustainability and alignment with industry needs.
His association with MARA’s education and technical development spans many years.
For UniKL, his progression from postgraduate alumnus to the leadership of MARA reinforces the importance of postgraduate education, lifelong learning, leadership development and industry-relevant higher education in creating impact beyond the university environment.
This milestone is particularly aligned with SDG 4: Quality Education, through leadership in education and TVET development; SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, through MARA’s entrepreneurship and human capital development agenda; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, reflecting the interconnected role of UniKL, MARA, industry and education stakeholders in developing Malaysia’s talent ecosystem.
