Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Spanish Institute (UniKL MSI) brought together nearly 950 innovators and 190 innovation projects at the 12th edition of its innovation competition, the International EUREKA Innovation Exhibition (i-EIE) 2026.
Held on 27 August 2026, the competition carried the theme “Transforming Challenges into Future Solutions”, encouraging participants to translate real-world challenges into creative and practical ideas.
The event attracted participants from across Malaysia, including Kedah, Perlis, Penang, Perak, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, Kelantan and Johor, with projects presented through both physical and online formats.
More than a competition, i-EIE 2026 provided a platform for young innovators to demonstrate problem-solving, creativity and technical knowledge while gaining exposure to an environment that encourages experimentation and the development of new solutions.
The 190 projects competed across five categories covering Technology and Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Manufacturing and Engineering, Social Science and Business, as well as STEM categories for primary and secondary school students.
Among the institutions recognised for outstanding innovations were Japan Malaysia Technical Institute (JMTI), ADTEC JTM Batu Pahat, Maahad Tahfiz Sains Darul Aman and Sekolah Kebangsaan Jawi, whose projects emerged among the competition’s Best Innovation recipients.
The closing and prize-giving ceremony was officiated by UniKL MSI Dean, Associate Professor Ir. Mohd Nizam Ahmad, accompanied by Dr. Muhammad Fauzi Daud, representing the Centre of Research and Innovation, and Head of Research and Innovation UniKL MSI Ir. Ts. Dr. Tajul Adli.
Initiatives such as i-EIE contribute to a wider culture of knowledge creation at UniKL by encouraging students and school communities to engage with science, technology, engineering, digital innovation and multidisciplinary problem-solving.
This aligns particularly with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 4: Quality Education, through inclusive STEM learning and talent development, and SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, through the promotion of technological innovation and solution-oriented thinking.
