Three research projects from Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) garnered international recognition at INTARG Poland 2024, representing Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA).
The projects, led by UniKL British Malaysia Institute (UniKL BMI) and UniKL Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP), were supported by MARA’s Innovation & Creative Technology Division (BITK), securing two gold and one silver medal.
The first gold medal was awarded to the ‘Invention of β-CAPS+: Chemopreventive & Neuroprotective Agent for Leukemia’ research project, spearheaded by Chm. Dr. Mazlin Mohideen.
This innovative approach utilised β-carboline extracted from Neolitsea kedahensis, a rare plant endemic to Gunung Jerai, Kedah. β-CAPS+ offers a cost-effective solution with demonstrated anticancer and neuroprotective properties, specifically targeting leukemia.
Another gold medal was achieved through UniKL BMI’s ‘Goolee Braille IoT Mind Games,’ led by Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Zuhanis Mansor.
This project revolutionises global Braille gaming using IoT technology, integrating sensors and cloud storage to enhance critical thinking through interactive gameplay for users of all ages.
Additionally, a silver medal was earned by a research team led by Ts. Dr. Vikneswari Perumal for their creation, the Chris V product, a cost-effective capsule designed to manage diabetes effectively among millions of patients worldwide, particularly benefiting middle-income groups.
MARA also showcased another successful project by Institute Kemahiran MARA (IKM) Lumut on ‘Irrigation Fertigation Effective Tools with IoT,’ which won a gold medal at the event.
INTARG 2024, held in Katowice, Poland, featured 400 innovations from 40 countries, including China, Thailand, Indonesia, Iran, Czech Republic, Morocco, and Vietnam.
MARA emphasised that these innovative products have undergone intellectual property registration at the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) to safeguard against plagiarism.
BITK has confirmed that these products have achieved a significant Technology Readiness Level (TRL), ensuring their competitiveness on the global stage.
