Universiti Kuala Lumpur Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP) brought geopolitical awareness and community resilience into sharper focus as it hosted the Seminar Kesedaran Geopolitik Ummah 2026 on 29 August 2026.
Held at Dewan Al-Biruni, UniKL RCMP, the seminar gathered 150 participants from non-governmental organisations (NGOs), higher education institutions across Perak and state agencies to examine how rapidly changing global geopolitical dynamics could affect Malaysia, society and the wider Muslim community.
The programme positioned higher education as an important platform for informed dialogue on global affairs, national sovereignty, social resilience and community leadership.
Pusat Kajian Warisan dan Sejarah Perak, UniKL RCMP served as a strategic partner for the seminar, reflecting the university’s broader commitment to knowledge exchange, intellectual development and community engagement in Perak.
A key highlight was the keynote address by YBhg. Dato’ Ahmad Azam Ab Rahman, Chairman of Pusat Pungutan Zakat (PPZ), Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan, and President of Wadah Pencerdasan Umat Malaysia (WADAH).
In his address, “Perubahan Geopolitik Global: Cabaran Kenegaraan, Malaysia dan Masa Depan Dakwah,” he examined the changing global geopolitical landscape and its implications for national sovereignty, Malaysian society and Islamic movements.
The session was moderated by Tn. Ibrahim Ahmad, Head of Pusat Kajian Warisan dan Sejarah, UniKL RCMP.
The seminar also featured the Wacana Strategik Ummah, titled “Dinamika Geopolitik Dunia Baharu dan Resiliensi Masyarakat: Strategi Memperkasa Malaysia dan Gerakan Islam Mendepani Cabaran Ummah.”
Presented by YBhg. Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Dato’ Yusri Anwar, Deputy Chairman of ADVO OKU Sejahtera, the session explored emerging geopolitical challenges and the importance of strengthening community resilience in responding to an increasingly complex global environment.
Discussions throughout the seminar also highlighted the value of geopolitical literacy in helping communities better understand the relationships between global developments, national interests and social stability.
The programme concluded with a synthesis and presentation of resolutions led by Dr. Wan Abdullah Wan Alwi, Chairman of the Seminar Resolution Committee.
The closing ceremony was attended by representatives including YBrs. Encik Ramadan Abd Karim, Director of YADIM Perak, and Tn. Hj. Mohd Halimi Abdul Hamid, Financial Secretary of Central WADAH.
By providing a platform for academics, community leaders, students, NGOs and public agencies to engage with contemporary geopolitical issues, UniKL RCMP continues to strengthen its role as a higher education institution that extends knowledge beyond the classroom.
Such engagement supports United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education by promoting lifelong learning and informed public discourse, while contributing to SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions through discussions on governance, resilience and social stability.
The involvement of multiple organisations and stakeholders also reflects SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, reinforcing the importance of collaboration between higher education, civil society and public institutions in addressing complex societal challenges.
