The ASSAK@KEDAH STEM Carnival 2026 attracted about 6,000 visitors during its two-day run in Sungai Petani, Kedah, from 20 to 21 June 2026, highlighting growing public interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education.

Co-organised by Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) and the Alumni Association of Sultan Mohamad Jiwa Science Secondary School (ASSAK), the carnival brought together school students, teachers, parents, industry representatives and STEM enthusiasts for a series of exhibitions, workshops, demonstrations and competitions.

UniKL served as the event’s main technical provider, mobilising more than 60 staff members and students from six campuses which are UniKL Malaysian Spanish Institute (UniKL MSI), UniKL Malaysian Institute of Chemical and Bioengineering Technology (UniKL MICET), UniKL Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (UniKL MIAT), UniKL Malaysian Institute of Industrial Technology (UniKL MITEC), UniKL Malaysian Institute of Marine Engineering Technology (UniKL MIMET) and UniKL British Malaysian Institute (UniKL BMI).
Visitors took part in interactive exhibitions, workshops and demonstrations covering various areas of science, technology and engineering. The activities were conducted by UniKL staff, students and members of the participating campuses’ STEM clubs.

UniKL academics and technical experts also served as judges for several competitions, assessing the entries and sharing feedback with the participants.
The carnival provided students and families with direct exposure to STEM activities and information on related study and career options.

The ASSAK@KEDAH STEM Carnival formed part of UniKL’s ongoing involvement in STEM outreach and school engagement programmes.
The programme was aligned with SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
