Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) is set to empower Huffaz students from West Sumatra, a province of Indonesia, through the Ulul Albab TVET Programme, which integrates Quran memorisation with technical and vocational education.

The initiative aims to nurture a new generation of professionals who are not only technically skilled but also guided by strong Islamic values.

The Ulul Albab Scholarship programme was among the key highlights of a courtesy visit by the Governor of West Sumatra, His Excellency H. Mahyeldi Ansharullah, and his delegation to UniKL’s main campus on 31 October 2025.

The visit symbolised a major step forward in strengthening educational and human capital development ties between Malaysia and Indonesia, particularly in the field of TVET.

Welcoming the Governor and his entourage, UniKL President/Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Ir. Dr. Azman Senin, expressed his gratitude for the visit and reaffirmed UniKL’s commitment to providing quality education that blends technical expertise with spiritual excellence.

“We are deeply honoured by this visit, which marks an important milestone in strengthening our collaboration with the Government of West Sumatra. The integration of Huffaz education with TVET represents an innovative approach that will open new learning pathways for West Sumatran students at UniKL,” he said.

He added that the initiative reflects a growing interest among Indonesian students to pursue technical and vocational studies while continuing their Quranic learning, a model that resonates with UniKL’s educational philosophy of producing holistic and ethical graduates.

In his remarks, Governor Mahyeldi commended UniKL’s role in advancing TVET education and welcomed the collaboration as a meaningful step in developing the potential of Huffaz students in West Sumatra.

“Our visit to UniKL today builds upon earlier discussions held in Jakarta, and we are pleased to see the progress made towards realising this partnership. We believe this collaboration will bring mutual benefits and strengthen our shared goals in TVET and education,” he said.

Earlier in August and October, UniKL’s International Office and the West Sumatra Education Department held discussions on implementing the Ulul Albab TVET Scholarship Programme, which will provide opportunities for Indonesian secondary school graduates to further their studies at UniKL.

The visit also included a briefing and campus tour, showcasing UniKL’s academic system, teaching facilities, and infrastructure that support its standing as one of Malaysia’s leading technical universities.
