Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) has reaffirmed its role in advancing national development through a RM1 million contribution to the Wakaf MARA MADANI (WMM) fund, signalling a strategic commitment to sustainable socio-economic empowerment.

The contribution was presented by UniKL Chairman, YBhg. Dato’ Sri Sh Mohmed Puzi Sh Ali, to the Senior Director of Investment, Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), YBhg. Dr. Azmi Amat Murjan.

The handover was witnessed by MARA Director General, Dato’ Zulfikri Osman, and Sahibus Samahah Ustaz Ahmad Fauwaz Fadzil, Mufti of the Federal Territories.

The presentation took place during the Filantropi MARA: Menjunjung Amanah Menyubur Jariah programme, held in conjunction with MARA’s 60th anniversary celebration at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.

UniKL’s contribution underscores its alignment with broader national priorities, particularly in strengthening education, entrepreneurship, and social mobility among the Bumiputera community.

The Wakaf MARA MADANI initiative represents a shift towards a more structured and sustainable model of Islamic philanthropy.

As of April 2026, the fund has reached RM70.56 million, reflecting growing confidence among institutional contributors and the public.

MARA has set a target to surpass RM100 million by the end of 2026, driven by stronger institutional participation and expanded public access through digital platforms.

According to Dato’ Zulfikri, the initiative marks a strategic evolution in the management of wakaf.
“Wakaf MARA MADANI reflects a strategic shift in strengthening Islamic philanthropy, from a traditional approach to a more structured, digital and scalable ecosystem,” he said.

Funds generated through Wakaf MARA MADANI are managed professionally in accordance with Syariah principles, with returns distributed across six core areas: education, entrepreneurship, welfare, healthcare, transportation, and wakaf asset development.

MARA has been appointed as mutawalli by the Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (MAIWP) to oversee the management and growth of the fund.

UniKL’s RM1 million contribution is part of a broader collective effort involving several MARA-linked entities, including Kolej Poly-Tech MARA (KPTM), MARA Corporation Sdn. Bhd., and Rural Capital Berhad.
