Three Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) students who will represent Malaysia at the 48th WorldSkills Competition (WSC) Shanghai 2026 received words of encouragement and motivation from YAB Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Rural and Regional Development, during the Majlis Amanat YAB Timbalan Perdana Menteri bersama Kontinjen TVET@KKDW ke WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 held at Seri Pacific Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.
The ceremony brought together competitors, experts, coaches and strategic partners from institutions under the TVET@KKDW ecosystem as part of the national preparation for the WorldSkills Competition, which will be held in Shanghai, China, from 22 to 27 September 2026.

The event reaffirmed the Government’s commitment towards strengthening Malaysia’s TVET ecosystem while inspiring the national contingent to strive for excellence on the global stage.
Among the nine competitors representing the TVET@KKDW institutions, three are UniKL students, making the UniKL the largest contributor to the TVET@KKDW contingent.
UniKL primarily focuses on new or future skills in the trade. The three students are:
* Muhammad Huzairy bin Mohamad Thes – Mechanical Engineering CAD (UniKL Malaysia France Institute)
* Mohammad Ezaly Iman bin Ramli – Cyber Security (UniKL Malaysian Institute of Information Technology)
* Wan Hamiz Ozai bin Wan Hamidzi – Rail Vehicle Technology (UniKL Malaysia Italy Design Institute)
The three UniKL students are among the nine competitors representing the TVET@KKDW institution and form part of the 22 competitors for the Malaysian contingent heading to WorldSkills Shanghai 2026.

Their participation reflects UniKL’s longstanding commitment to nurturing industry-ready graduates with world-class technical competencies and reinforces the University’s position as a key contributor to Malaysia’s skills excellence agenda.
In his address, YAB Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reminded the contingent that participation in WorldSkills is more than competing in an international event—it is an opportunity to demonstrate Malaysia’s capability in producing world-class skilled talent.
He encouraged every competitor to maintain discipline, strengthen technical competencies and compete with confidence in pursuit of Malaysia’s first WorldSkills gold medal.
As a mark of his confidence and encouragement in the contingent, the Deputy Prime Minister also announced a personal incentive whereby every TVET@KKDW competitor who wins a gold medal at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, together with his or her parents, will be sponsored to perform Umrah.
The gesture reflects the Government’s appreciation for excellence and dedication in representing the nation.
The event also featured the symbolic presentation of the Jalur Gemilang, signifying the responsibility entrusted to the Malaysian contingent as national representatives, as well as a showcase of the TVET Collaboration Hub – UniKL Robotics and Industrial Automation Centre (URIAC) humanoid robot, highlighting Malaysia’s growing capabilities in advanced manufacturing, robotics and automation.

Beyond student participation, UniKL continues to strengthen Malaysia’s WorldSkills ecosystem through the contribution of its academic staff, who have been appointed as Experts, Coaches and Skills Advisors for Team Malaysia. Their involvement reflects UniKL’s strategic role not only in developing world-class competitors but also in providing technical leadership for the nation’s WorldSkills programme.
For WSC Shanghai 2026, UniKL contributes:
* Assoc. Prof. Dr Ahmad Shahrafidz Khalid – Expert (Cyber Security)
* Dr Zaridah – Expert (Rail Vehicle Technology)
* Ts. Junita Mohd Said – Skills Advisor (Mechanical Engineering CAD)
* Shahmal Fazzad – National Coach (Mechanical Engineering CAD)
* Firdaus Hassan – National Coach (Rail Vehicle Technology)
As preparations enter the final phase before the competition in Shanghai this September, the entire UniKL community stands united in supporting its competitors, experts and coaches. Their participation embodies UniKL’s aspiration to advance TVET excellence while proudly carrying the Jalur Gemilang onto the world stage.
