A total of 90 students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kulim participated in an engaging “Empowering Community for Tomorrow” programme jointly organised with Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Spanish Institute (UniKL MSI), in a collaborative initiative aimed at strengthening STEM literacy while nurturing essential life skills.
The programme was designed to bridge academic learning with real-world application through interactive, hands-on STEM modules led by UniKL MSI student volunteers.
Moving beyond conventional classroom approaches, the sessions encouraged active participation and curiosity-driven learning, enabling school students to better understand scientific and technical concepts in an engaging environment.

In addition to STEM exposure, the initiative incorporated complementary life-skill components, including critical thinking development, effective communication training, and a sketching and creative arts workshop.
These elements were introduced to cultivate analytical thinking while also encouraging creativity and self-expression among participants.
The programme aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by promoting inclusive and experiential learning opportunities, while also reflecting SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through collaboration between a higher education institution and a secondary school.
Beyond benefiting school participants, the initiative also served as a meaningful developmental experience for UniKL MSI undergraduates.
Through direct community engagement, student volunteers gained exposure to leadership, empathy, and social responsibility, reinforcing the importance of applying technical knowledge in the service of society.
