As we enter the new year, 2025, the journey ahead for Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) is filled with immense opportunities and promising milestones. Building on its legacy of excellence, UniKL is ready to expand its impact, strengthen its reputation, and continue shaping the future of education and innovation in Malaysia and beyond.

Here is the full statement from the President and Chief Executive Officer of UniKL, Prof. Ir. Dr. Azman Senin:

I am pleased to greet all of you in the new year of 2025. Alhamdulillah, all praise is to Allah SWT by whose grace and blessings, Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) continues to prosper over 22 years.

The year 2024 witnessed many success stories and significant achievements of UniKL, both at the local and global arena. I would like to place on record my highest appreciation to all of you who have contributed tremendously to these achievements.

As an APEX university for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), UniKL plays a crucial role in producing talents for the key industries. To date, 91,792 graduates had graduated through the UniKL Higher TVET (HTVET) education system, equipped with skills and knowledge to thrive in the era of rapid technological advancement and sustainable development. The number of UniKL graduates will certainly continue to grow as we strive to produce highly demanded talents who will shape the future, for the many years to come.

Moving forward, we must embrace global challenges with a mindset of adaptability and forward-thinking. These challenges provide the opportunities for growth and transformation. We need to be bold and develop strategies to transform our core knowledge and skills through digitalization. With this digital transformation, UniKL is geared to offer inclusive on-demand HTVET programmes to a wider audience, including full-time students, underprivileged students, working individuals and professional groups.

Over the years, UniKL has seen its graduates employed by global organizations across various key industries. This is a testament to the high quality of UniKL HTVET education. With this confidence, we have set a strategic goal to attract at least 10% of our student enrolment from international students. To date, we have welcomed students from 65 countries. We will increase our internationalisation effort as we continue to foster cross – cultural collaboration, strengthening existing global linkages and build new partnership with renowned institutions and organizations worldwide.

UniKL places great emphasis on high quality research and development in 2025 too. For this, we will be organizing the Kuala Lumpur International Summit on Sustainable Future 2025 (KL-SF 2025), which is scheduled to take place on 2 and 3 September 2025. The summit will consist of multiple research tracks: Artificial Intelligence; Energy; Health and Well-being; Sustainable Cities and Communities; Environment; Transport; Business and Economic Growth; and Education Equality. KL-SF 2025 will signify UniKL’s commitment to play a vital role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and addressing the global challenges.

As importantly, several exciting activities are currently in the pipeline for all staff in 2025. These activities will focus on personal and professional growth, fostering a positive work culture. For a start, the long-awaited Staff Sports Carnival will be making a comeback from 10 until 14 January 2025 at UniKL MIAT (Sepang Campus). It is hoped that these activities will boost our spirit of togetherness and enhance our ability to deliver outstanding results to all our stakeholders. More details will be shared from time to time and I encourage everyone to participate in these activities.

We are confident that the year 2025 brings new challenges and opportunities. I believe with the continued spirit of We Are UniKL and by upholding our core values (C.I.T.I.E.), I am confident that we will achieve our desired objectives and key results (OKR). Together, we will scale greater heights and achieve new milestones for UniKL.

Wishing you a Happy and Prosperous 2025!
