Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Information Technology (UniKL MIIT), through its Centre for Women Advancement and Leadership (CWAL), empowered approximately 120 secondary school students with essential digital safety, cybersecurity and responsible artificial intelligence (AI) skills through CyberSmart 2026.
Held on 7 July 2026 at Sekolah Menengah Setia Budi in Gombak, the community engagement and knowledge transfer programme aimed to prepare young people to navigate an increasingly complex digital environment safely, ethically and responsibly.
CyberSmart 2026: Inclusive Youth Leadership in Digital Safety and Ethical Technology was funded by Yayasan UniKL and organised in collaboration with the school’s management, principal and teachers.
The programme combined expert knowledge-sharing sessions with interactive learning activities covering cybercrime prevention, online safety, ethical technology, responsible artificial intelligence and digital citizenship.

Representatives from the Malaysian Cyber Consumer Association (MCCA) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) shared practical guidance on identifying online risks, protecting personal information and responding appropriately to potential cyber threats.
Their involvement connected classroom learning with current digital challenges, helping students understand how cybersecurity awareness and responsible online behaviour can protect individuals, families and communities.
One of the programme’s main highlights was the CyberSmart Quest, which placed students in interactive games and team-based challenges related to cybersecurity, ethical technology and responsible internet use.

Instead of relying solely on lectures, the activities encouraged participants to apply their knowledge, assess digital risks and work together to solve realistic online safety scenarios.
For the record, CyberSmart 2026 was led by UniKL MIIT CWAL Coordinator and Project Leader Dr Mahfuzah Mohaidin.
She was supported by project team members Ts. Dr. Masyarah Mazmuzidin, Ts. Dr. Syahela Hussein, Ts. Amalia Mohamad, Ahmad Fahmi Mohamad and Nadhirah Azamudin, together with 10 UniKL MIIT student facilitators.

The programme also marked an important milestone with the signing of a Letter of Collaboration between UniKL MIIT and Sekolah Menengah Setia Budi, to advance digital literacy, youth development and future community-based educational programmes.
Through the partnership, UniKL MIIT will be able to extend its expertise in information technology, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and digital education beyond the university campus.
It also creates opportunities for academics, university students, schools, government agencies and community organisations to collaborate on initiatives addressing emerging technological and social challenges.
CyberSmart 2026 contributes directly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure and SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
