Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Marine Engineering Technology (UniKL MIMET) has secured two grants under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation’s (MOSTI) STEM Camp 2026 initiative.

The grants, approved through letters dated 18 June 2026, provide RM15,000 for each project, bringing the total funding to RM30,000.

The approved projects are Junior Naval Architect: Appreciating Melaka’s Maritime Heritage Through STEM and Junior Apps Developer: Educational Application Development Camp Using Low-Code and AI.

The Junior Naval Architect programme will introduce participants to maritime engineering through activities covering buoyancy, propulsion systems and the construction of prototype boats using fibreglass composite materials.

By linking science and engineering with Melaka’s maritime heritage, the programme aims to make STEM learning more practical and relevant while encouraging young participants to appreciate Malaysia’s maritime legacy.

Meanwhile, the Junior Apps Developer programme will expose participants to low-code development and artificial intelligence (AI) through the development of educational applications.

The camp will provide young learners, including students from religious schools, with opportunities to explore digital technology, application development, problem-solving and the potential use of AI in education.

The two projects reflect UniKL MIMET’s commitment to expanding access to hands-on STEM education and developing future talent in maritime engineering, digital technology and artificial intelligence.

The initiatives support United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education and SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.
