Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Chemical and Bioengineering Technology (UniKL MICET) strengthened its academic expertise in industrial safety through a two-day Process Safety Management (PSM) training programme held on 8 and 9 September 2026.
Organised by the Process Engineering Technology Section, the initiative involved 20 academic staff members from the Bachelor of Chemical Engineering Technology with Honours (BCET) programme, reinforcing UniKL’s commitment to industry-driven education and continuous professional development.
The training was conducted by Ts. Fazrul Azreen from Leading Quantum Consultancy, an experienced oil and gas industry professional who shared practical knowledge on workplace safety, industrial risk management, human factors, process design and safety management systems.

Through direct knowledge exchange with an industry practitioner, participating academics gained valuable insights into current industrial safety practices, which can be integrated into the programme’s Process Safety Management courses, namely PSM 1, PSM 2 and PSM 3.
The initiative bridges the gap between industry practices and classroom learning, equipping lecturers with relevant expertise to strengthen students’ safety awareness, risk management capabilities and readiness for careers in the chemical engineering sector.
Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the programme supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) through academic capacity building, SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) through workforce readiness, SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) through industry–academia knowledge transfer, and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) through safer industrial practices.
