Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Medical Science Technology (UniKL MESTECH) strengthened its role in advancing Health Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) through the successful organisation of Karnival TVET Kesihatan 2026 on 20 May 2026.
Held under the theme “Empowering the Health TVET Generation for the Nation’s Future,” the carnival was organised as a strategic initiative to promote greater awareness and understanding of Health TVET education, career pathways and clinical practical skills among secondary school students, TVET institutions, educators, industry representatives and the local community.
The programme was led by Deputy Dean of Student Development and Campus Lifestyle (SDCL), Dr Khairul Nizam Mohd Isa, together with MESRA staff, Nurin I’rdina Madihah Azhar, and brought together a strong network of collaborators, including Wellness On Wheels (WOW) by the Selangor State Health Department, Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia (APM) Putrajaya, GiatMARA Hulu Langat, the UniKL MIAT Counsellor Unit, and the UPM Postgraduate Counselling Club, Wellness.
As the first event of its kind organised by UniKL MESTECH, the carnival was envisioned as a signature outreach platform to showcase the unique strengths of Health TVET programmes, practical skills training, and career opportunities in healthcare and applied sciences.
It attracted 332 secondary school students from 16 schools across Selangor, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur and Negeri Sembilan.
Among the participating schools were SBPI Jempol, SMK Jalan Bukit, SMK Bandar Salak Tinggi, SMK Kajang Utama, SMK Sungai Ramal, SMK Khir Johari, SMK Tunku Ampuan Durah, SMK Dato’ Abu Bakar Baginda, SMK Dato’ Ahmad Sheikh, SMK Seri Permaisuri, SMK Cheras, SMK Tun Dr. Ismail, Kolej Vokasional ERT Setapak, Kolej Vokasional Setapak and SMK (L) Methodist Kuala Lumpur.
Throughout the carnival, students were exposed to a wide range of interactive and hands-on activities, including Health TVET exhibitions, academic and career showcases, laboratory and clinical skill demonstrations, emergency response simulations, educational games, STEM activities, health quizzes and practical learning sessions.
A key highlight of the carnival was the inaugural Pertandingan Wira Pertolongan Cemas 2026, or First Aid Hero Competition, organised by UniKL MESTECH in strategic collaboration with APM Putrajaya and supported by main sponsor Beta Medik (M) Sdn Bhd.
Designed to cultivate a safety-conscious younger generation, the competition assessed students through structured challenges involving practical first aid skills, CPR demonstrations, written knowledge tests and emergency moulage simulations.
The format allowed participants to apply their knowledge in realistic emergency scenarios while building confidence, teamwork and readiness to respond effectively during critical situations.
SMK (L) Methodist Kuala Lumpur emerged as the inaugural Champion after demonstrating outstanding knowledge, practical competency and teamwork throughout the assessment rounds.
Kolej Vokasional ERT Setapak was named First Runner-up, while SBPI Jempol, Negeri Sembilan secured the Second Runner-up position.
