Twenty student leaders from Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Information Technology (UniKL MIIT) and Universitas Bung Hatta (UBH), Indonesia extended their support to flood victims in Padang through an international community service initiative.
Demonstrating the spirit of global citizenship, UniKL MIIT staff and students responded to urgent humanitarian needs by distributing food and essential supplies to affected communities.
Beyond showcasing UniKL’s commitment to University Social Responsibility (USR), the effort reflects Malaysia’s compassion and solidarity, embodying values of service that transcend academic boundaries.
The humanitarian activity formed part of the staff mobility and student outreach programme under UBH’s Computer Network Engineering Technology Study Program (TRKJ), held from 26 November to 1 December 2025.
Organised by UniKL MIIT’s International Partnership & Campus Lifestyle Sections, the week-long programme brought together student leaders for an immersive experience that combined leadership development, academic exchange, and cultural exposure.
According to the Head of the International Partnership & Campus Lifestyle Sections, Ms. Aruna Azariah Rajendram, participants engaged in intensive leadership workshops, including seminars on “Emerging Leaders in the Digital Era” and “Leadership Principles: Resilience & Emotional Intelligence.”
These sessions equipped students with essential leadership competencies for navigating the complexities of the digital age, emphasising adaptability, emotional intelligence, and resilience as key attributes of effective modern leaders.
The programme also featured dynamic team-building games and leadership challenges designed to strengthen collaboration, problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and group cohesion, while drawing inspiration from Minangkabau’s traditional governance and leadership philosophies.
In addition to leadership development, the outreach initiative included a hybrid series of guest lectures, beginning with virtual sessions from 11–25 November, followed by on-site activities.
Lectures on “Database System for Networking” and “Green IT and Sustainable Networking,” delivered by a lecturer from UniKL MIIT’s Computer Engineering Technology (CET) section, provided UBH students with updated insights into current computing challenges and sustainable technology practices.
“This successful mobility programme establishes a strong foundation for long-term collaboration between UniKL and Universitas Bung Hatta, reaffirming both institutions’ dedication to advancing excellence in education, research, and community engagement on the global stage,” she added.
