The smiles of underprivileged children at Rumah Perlindungan Fitrah Qaseh became the highlight of a community service programme by Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Industrial Technology (UniKL MITEC), reflecting the university’s commitment to care and compassion.
The initiative, aptly named “Sentuhan Kasih, Pelita Harapan”, was spearheaded by Programme Director, Dr Farah Idayu Mohd Salleh and supported by committee members from UniKL MITEC’s Student Development, Technical Foundation, Industrial Logistics, Teknoputra, and Library Section.
Together, they brought RM1,250 in cash, 15 sacks of rice, decent clothing, and plush toys while also organising ice-breaking and group activities with the children.
“Seeing the children’s smiles reminded us that even small acts of kindness can spark hope and make a lasting difference,” said Dr Farah Idayu.

According to Dr Farah Idayu, the initiative aimed not only to support the shelter’s daily needs but also to uplift the emotional well-being of the children.
The project was inspired by staff awareness of the home’s struggles and their desire to provide meaningful assistance.
For the volunteers, the experience underscored the importance of giving beyond material support.
“This journey taught us that true impact comes from giving not just resources, but also time, empathy, and genuine connection,” shared her.
Through this effort, UniKL MITEC reaffirmed its role as an institution that values social responsibility, ensuring that education extends beyond the classroom to touch lives in the wider community.
