Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) has reached a new milestone in its sustainability journey with the launch of its first Sustainability Report 2025, bringing together the university’s environmental, social, governance, education, research and community impact under one institutional framework.
The UniKL Sustainability Report 2025 was officially launched on 23 September 2026 by UniKL Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Kushsairy Abdul Kadir, during his Town Hall Session with UniKL academicians.
Joining him at the launch were Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Development and Campus Lifestyle), Prof. Ts. Dr. Zalizah Awang Long; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise), Prof. Ir. Dr. Azmi Hassan; and Covering Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Internationalisation), Ts. Dr. Zulkifli Mahmoodin; together with UniKL deans and academicians.
Titled “Progress with Purpose: Innovating Today, Sustaining Tomorrow,” the report organises UniKL’s sustainability journey around the five pillars, or 5Ps, of sustainable development: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnership.
Rather than positioning sustainability as a standalone environmental agenda, the report connects it with education, research and innovation, campus operations, governance, industry engagement and community development.
UniKL describes sustainability as a strategic imperative, supported by responsible governance, stronger institutional frameworks, accountability and partnerships aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The launch also builds on UniKL’s growing visibility in global university sustainability rankings.
UniKL made its first appearance in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2026, joining nearly 2,000 universities evaluated worldwide.
Its strongest performance was recorded under Knowledge Exchange, with a score of 81.5, reflecting areas such as applied research, industry collaboration, community engagement and knowledge transfer.
That momentum continued in 2026 when UniKL debuted in the Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026, achieving an overall score of 65.5 and placing in the 601–800 global band among 1,603 institutions assessed.
UniKL’s strongest performance in the THE assessment was in SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, where it scored 80.7, reflecting the importance of partnerships to its TVET, industry, research and community-engagement model.
Sustainability also emerged as UniKL’s highest-scoring indicator in the QS World University Rankings 2027, further connecting the university’s sustainability agenda with its broader institutional and global reputation strategy.
