Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) and City University Malaysia (City U) have reinforced their commitment to advancing higher education, research, and leadership development through the formal exchange of a Letter of Intent (LoI).

Held at City U today, the LoI was signed by UniKL President and Chief Executive Officer, YBhg. Prof. Ir. Dr. Azman Senin, and City U Vice Chancellor, YBhg. Prof. Dr. Rosnizah Shaari.

Also present were YBhg. Datuk Prof. Dato’ Dr. Husaini Omar, Chairman of the Board of Governors, City U; YBhg. Prof. Dr. Juhary Ali, Pro Vice-Chancellor of City U; YBrs. Assoc. Prof. Norman Chu, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic, Research & Innovation), City U; YBrs. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tong Woei Yenn, Director of the UniKL Centre for Research and Innovation; and YBrs. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yuhanees Mohamed Yusof, Director of the UniKL Centre for Advancement & Continuing Education (ACE), along with members of management from both institutions.

In his address, Prof. Ir. Dr. Azman said the LoI represents more than a formal agreement, but a shared commitment to strengthening collaboration in shaping the future of higher education through strategic partnerships, innovation, and impactful academic engagement.

“Today’s LoI outlines several key areas of collaboration that are both timely and forward-looking. The High Impact Leadership Programme, proposed to be jointly delivered by UniKL, City University Malaysia, and Brunel University London, is one of the key agendas outlined in this Letter of Intent,” he said.

The five-day executive programme aims to strengthen leadership capabilities among senior management, equipping them with strategic foresight and adaptability in an increasingly complex global environment.

Both institutions also agreed to pursue joint research initiatives under a matching grant mechanism, focusing on key areas such as Allied Health Sciences, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, and Biotechnology. Early-stage discussions among research groups from both universities have already begun, signalling strong momentum towards implementation.

In addition, the collaboration will extend to co-supervision of postgraduate students, joint academic publications, and research dissemination activities, reinforcing efforts to build a stronger academic ecosystem.

Prof. Ir. Dr. Azman also acknowledged the existing collaboration between both institutions, noting City U’s participation as a strategic partner in the Kuala Lumpur International Summit on Sustainable Future 2025 (KLSF 2025).

The summit, held in September 2025, gathered more than 650 participants comprising researchers, academics, and industry leaders to discuss sustainability challenges.

Building on this momentum, UniKL extended an invitation for City University Malaysia to continue its partnership in the upcoming KLSF 2027.
