The upcoming ASSAK@KEDAH STEM Carnival 2026 is set to strengthen science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) awareness among students, teachers, parents and communities through a two-day programme in Sungai Petani, Kedah, on 20 and 21 June 2026.

Director of Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) Centre For Stem Enhancement & TVET (CSET) Ts. Dr. Muzafar Zulkifli said the carnival is designed not only to introduce young learners to STEM, but also to help them understand how science and technology are connected to future careers, innovation and national development.

He said the programme will bring together exhibitions, hands-on workshops, innovation showcases, competitions and career exploration activities to make STEM learning more accessible, interactive and relevant to today’s students.

According to him, such outreach initiatives are important in building early interest among school students, particularly as Malaysia continues to strengthen its talent pipeline in science, engineering, technology and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

Ts. Dr. Muzafar shared this during his appearance on RTM’s Selamat Pagi Malaysia on 4 June, where he was accompanied by Capt. (R) Hasanin Ahmad, Chairman of the Sultan Mohamad Jiwa Science Secondary School Alumni Association (ASSAK).

The ASSAK@KEDAH STEM Carnival 2026 is co-organised by ASSAK, with UniKL serving as the Technology Partner for the programme.

The collaboration reflects a growing effort to connect educational institutions, alumni networks, industry players, and community stakeholders to promote STEM education at the grassroots level.

Organisers are also hopeful of securing the participation of Malaysia’s first astronaut, Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor, whose presence is expected to attract wider public interest and inspire students to explore opportunities in science, engineering and innovation.

Ts. Dr. Muzafar also highlighted the role of the UniKL CSET in expanding STEM outreach across Malaysia through collaborations with government agencies, industry partners and community organisations.

With support from government programmes and industry sponsors, UniKL CSET is working to make STEM learning activities more widely available, including for underserved and remote communities.
