UniKL Malaysian Institute of Information Technology (UniKL MIIT) is turning student innovation into real-world mobility solutions through its ongoing collaboration with MARA Liner Sdn. Bhd. (MLSB) in the development of a Fleet Management System (FMS).
The collaboration, which began in May 2025, focuses on addressing operational challenges in public transport through technology-driven solutions, including fleet monitoring, route compliance, ridership validation, vehicle intelligence and data-driven decision-making.
On 2 July 2026, MLSB’s Chief Executive Officer, Encik Wan Md Hazlin Agyl Wan Hassan, together with the company’s delegation, visited UniKL City Campus for the iFYP Prototypes Showcase.

The programme was held at Level 29, UniKL City Campus, Kuala Lumpur, and featured a tour of the student prototypes and a discussion session.
The showcase marked another important milestone in UniKL’s academic-industry collaboration with MARA Liner, following a series of online and physical discussions held between both parties to identify MLSB use cases, operational needs and possible digital solutions.
To strengthen the collaboration, a Letter of Intent (LOI) and Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) were signed in February 2026, paving the way for more structured cooperation in system development, prototyping, research and potential commercialisation.

A total of six groups comprising 14 Diploma in Information Technology (DIT) students completed prototype development for their industrial Final Year Project (iFYP). The projects were developed with the aim of supporting MLSB’s future Integrated Intelligent Fleet Management components.
The showcase provided a platform for students to present their prototypes directly to industry experts from MLSB.
It also enabled MLSB to assess the relevance of each solution, verify the severity of current operational problems, and provide feedback on the prototypes’ functionality, priority and market potential.
Representing Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tong Woei Yenn, Director of the Centre of Research & Innovation (CORI). Also present were Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Nizam Husen, Dean of UniKL MIIT, and Encik Abdul Hadi Hanid, General Manager of MLSB.

Through this initiative, UniKL MIIT continues to strengthen its position as an industry-focused technical university in Malaysia, supporting digital transformation, public transport innovation and talent development in line with the needs of the mobility sector.
The collaboration also supports several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, through experiential learning and industry-based student projects; SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, through intelligent fleet management solutions; SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, through smarter public transport systems; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through strategic university-industry collaboration.
