Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Spanish Institute (UniKL MSI) and Flextronics Technology (Penang) Sdn Bhd (Flex) have strengthened their long-standing industry–academia partnership with the launch of the fourth batch of the Professional Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (PCIME).
Launched on 23 June 2026, the industry-focused programme brings together 25 selected Flex employees for intensive technical training from June to November 2026. The programme is fully sponsored by the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp).
The opening ceremony was officiated by Flex Vice President Al Harara, together with Flex General Manager E.S. Yeoh and UniKL MSI Head of Campus and Dean, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Nizam Ahmad.

Developed to address the evolving needs of Malaysia’s manufacturing sector, PCIME equips participants with specialised mechanical engineering knowledge, process optimisation capabilities and practical skills that support operational excellence and smart manufacturing.
The programme also strengthens the connection between higher education and industry by providing working professionals with accessible lifelong learning and technical upskilling opportunities.
Unlike conventional professional courses, the PCIME curriculum was jointly developed by engineering experts from UniKL MSI and subject matter experts from Flex.

The collaborative approach ensures that the learning modules respond directly to operational requirements and current challenges within the advanced manufacturing industry.
Participants are exposed to technical knowledge and practical applications related to manufacturing processes, productivity improvement, digital transformation and industrial innovation.
Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Nizam said the continuation of PCIME into its fourth batch demonstrated the industry’s confidence in UniKL MSI’s technical expertise and professional training capabilities.
The professional certificate programme contributes to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through its focus on quality technical education, decent employment, industrial innovation and strategic partnerships.
