Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) has retained its position among the world’s ranked universities in the QS World University Rankings 2027, published today, 18 June 2026.
UniKL is among only 32 Malaysian universities included in this year’s edition, reflecting its continued presence in one of the world’s most recognised university ranking systems.
UniKL’s inclusion also complements the presence of other members of Malaysia’s Alliance of Government-Linked Universities (GLU) recognised in the same ranking, including Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) and Multimedia University (MMU).
As an industry-focused technical university wholly owned by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), UniKL plays a distinctive role within the GLU alliance by prioritising Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), applied research and industry-driven education.
For the record, the QS World University Rankings 2027 evaluated 8,808 institutions across 106 locations, with 1,504 universities included in the final published ranking.
Sustainability emerged as UniKL’s highest-scoring indicator, which builds on UniKL’s first inclusion in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2026, that placed the university among nearly 2,000 institutions evaluated worldwide.

In the sustainability ranking, UniKL recorded its strongest performance in knowledge exchange, reflecting the university’s commitment to industry collaboration, applied research, community engagement and initiatives aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Overall, UniKL was placed in the 1401+ band globally in the QS World University Rankings 2027.
With its main campus in the heart of Kuala Lumpur and specialised institutes across Malaysia, UniKL offers students industry-focused education, professional exposure and learning opportunities beyond the classroom.
Notably, Kuala Lumpur was ranked the world’s 12th-best student city in the QS Best Student Cities 2026, strengthening its appeal as a study destination for both local and international students.
