A total of 47 students from Universiti Kuala Lumpur Institute of Medical Science Technology (UniKL MESTECH) participated in the Eco-Roots Project, a community-based initiative designed to strengthen environmental literacy and encourage greater responsibility toward ecological preservation.
The programme, conducted on 13 May 2026 at Taman Rekreasi Paya Bakau Kampung Sijangkang, Kuala Langat, was organised as part of the Community Service 2 (MPU3422) module.

It provided students with hands-on exposure to one of Malaysia’s most important coastal ecosystems.
Mangrove forests play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance by protecting shorelines from erosion, supporting marine biodiversity, and contributing to carbon sequestration.

Through guided activities at the conservation and recreational site, participants explored the unique structure and ecological functions of mangrove habitats.
Students observed specialised root systems, adaptive vegetation, and the interconnected marine life that thrives within mangrove ecosystems. The field experience offered practical insights into coastal biodiversity and the environmental challenges associated with preserving these habitats.

A key highlight of the programme was its strong corporate social responsibility (CSR) component. Students participated in collaborative, field-based activities that encouraged teamwork and environmental responsibility while engaging directly with the natural environment.
Beyond the field activities, the Eco-Roots Project emphasised sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
