Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) celebrated the academic achievements of 20 children of its staff while extending zakat assistance to 125 eligible employees.

The recognition and assistance were presented during the Majlis Anugerah Anak-Anak Cemerlang dan Pengagihan Zakat (Wakalah) UniKL 2025, held on 6 August 2026 .

The ceremony was graced by UniKL Chairman YBhg. Dato’ Sri Sh. Mohmed Puzi Sh. Ali, together with Chief Executive Officer, Mr Wan Ahmad Saifuddin Wan Ahmad Radzi, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Kushsairy Abdul Kadir, Deputy Vice-Chancellor.

Organised by Group Human Capital division, the programme reflected UniKL’s broader commitment to recognising achievement while supporting the welfare of its workforce and their families.

The 20 Anak Cemerlang recipients were recognised for their outstanding performance in the 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination.

Recipients achieved strong academic results, with the award criteria recognising students who obtained at least six As, while the highest-performing candidates recorded results of up to 11As.

As part of UniKL’s recognition of their achievement, the university increased the cash incentive for the Anak-Anak Cemerlang SPM Award for each recipient.

The recognition goes beyond rewarding examination results. It acknowledges the role of families in supporting educational achievement while encouraging young people to continue pursuing knowledge, professional skills and opportunities in higher education.

Dato’ Sri Sh. Mohmed Puzi also encouraged the high-achieving students to consider UniKL as a destination for their tertiary education and become part of the university community in the future.

Alongside the academic awards, 47 eligible UniKL staff members received zakat assistance as part of the university’s efforts to provide meaningful welfare support to employees facing financial needs.

The assistance was channelled through the Dana Wakalah Zakat from Pusat Pungutan Zakat-Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (PPZ-MAIWP), reflecting cooperation in ensuring zakat assistance reaches eligible members of the UniKL community.

The initiative positions zakat not simply as financial assistance, but as part of a wider culture of care, responsibility and social inclusion within the university.

As highlighted during the ceremony, the contribution is intended to help ease the financial burden on recipients and their families while strengthening a sense of togetherness across the UniKL community.

The programme also aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It supports SDG 4: Quality Education; SDG 1: No Poverty and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities.
