Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Marine Engineering Technology (UniKL MIMET), through its Centre for Instructional Technology and Curriculum Development (CIDEX) has taken a proactive step in strengthening academic quality and accreditation readiness by organising a two-day training programme on “Mapping Graduate Attributes and Professional Competencies for BEM-Accredited Programme.”
Held from 15 to 16 April, the programme brought together academic staff from UniKL MIMET and UniKL Malaysian Spanish Institute (UniKL MSI).
The session was led by Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd. Khairil Rahmat, focusing on the latest 2024 requirements set by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Council (ETAC).
The training introduced participants to the updated ETAC Graduate Attributes, with emphasis on aligning academic programmes to current accreditation standards and evolving industry needs.
The initiative addresses a critical gap between existing academic practices and the latest accreditation expectations, ensuring that programmes remain relevant and responsive to industry demands.
Moving forward, academic staff are expected to refine their course design and documentation, particularly in aligning Course Learning Outcomes (CLO) with Programme Learning Outcomes (PLO) based on the revised framework.
This alignment will be implemented in upcoming semesters through enhanced course mapping, improved assessment practices, and strengthened Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives.
Through such efforts, UniKL reinforces its dedication to maintaining accreditation standards while producing well-rounded, industry-ready graduates equipped with both technical expertise and essential professional competencies.
