Universiti Kuala Lumpur Institute of Medical Science Technology (UniKL MESTECH) is exploring opportunities for joint research with the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) as part of efforts to renew and strengthen their existing collaboration.
The initiative reflects the commitment of both institutions to enhance cooperation in research, training, and professional development in the field of occupational safety and health (OSH).
For the record, UniKL MESTECH conducted a working visit to NIOSH on 12 January 2026.
The delegation was led by Deputy Dean for International, Industrial and Institutional Partnership (IIIP), Ts. Arvind Bala Krishnan, accompanied by Head of Section for Environmental Health, Dr. Sabrina Karim, and Head of Section for Research and Innovation, Ts. Dr. Noor Arniwati Mat Daud.
Beyond collaborative research, the visit focused on strengthening existing partnerships, particularly in customised OSH training programmes and professional competency certification.

Discussions also covered the feasibility of further aligning professional competency certifications embedded in the Bachelor of Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH) programme with current industry regulations and codes of practice.
In addition, NIOSH granted UniKL MESTECH students access to free OSH awareness talks throughout 2026, providing ongoing exposure to emerging OSH issues, best practices, and regulatory updates.
The Bachelor of Occupational Safety and Health (Honours) programme offered by UniKL MESTECH is accredited by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Malaysia, and has also received international accreditation from the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), United Kingdom.
With demand for qualified OSH officers and professionals continuing to rise, UniKL MESTECH plays an important role in preparing a competent and industry-ready workforce in this critical field.
These efforts align with the global agenda for sustainable development, particularly Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-Being and SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.
Note: In line with Malaysia’s aspiration to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) continues to strengthen and expand its efforts through various initiatives.
