After spending a year in a coma and another three years recovering from a tragic road accident, nothing could stop Muhammad Iftar Mubarak Abd Samat, 29, from achieving his dream of graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) in Islamic Finance.

His determination finally paid off at Universiti Kuala Lumpur’s (UniKL) 22nd Convocation Ceremony, where he proudly received his degree, eight years after enrolling.

In 2019, just one semester away from completing his studies, Muhammad Iftar Mubarak’s life changed forever when he was hit by a lorry while on his way back to his hometown.

The accident left him crippled and struggling to speak properly, forcing him to put his education on hold.

“I had only one semester left. I told myself, once you start something, you must finish it, no matter what happens.

“Islamic Finance is not easy, but I was determined to complete it despite my condition,” he said with a smile.

Muhammad Iftar Mubarak, the youngest of seven siblings, was accompanied at the ceremony by his mother, Rokiah Mustafa, 72, and sister, Sabrina Abdul Samat, 43, who have been his pillars of strength and caregivers since the accident.

He expressed deep gratitude to UniKL for allowing him to continue his studies fully online, enabling him to complete his degree without attending physical classes.

Despite his physical limitations, Muhammad Iftar Mubarak’s spirit remains unbroken.

Once an active and energetic person, he now faces each day with quiet resilience and unwavering faith.

“This is His fate, and I just want to go with the flow,” he said softly.

Muhammad Iftar Mubarak was among more than 700 graduates who received their scrolls during the fifth session of UniKL’s 22nd Convocation Ceremony.
