The UniKL Beast Taekwondo Club has brought pride to Universiti Kuala Lumpur Business School (UniKL BIS), clinching a total of five medals — two gold, one silver, and two bronze — at the KAUL Taekwondo Championship 2025 held in Mukah, Sarawak on 26 and 27 April 2025.
Nurin Raflina Mohd Razali, a student of the Bachelor in Tourism Planning and Development (Honours) programme, secured one gold medal in the Open Lightweight Sparring (Black Belt category) and one silver medal in the Open 2nd Dan Black Belt Pattern category.
Meanwhile, Nurul Amani Mohd Azmi, a student of the Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing (Honours) programme, claimed one gold medal in the Open Colour Belt Pattern category and one bronze in the Open Lightweight Sparring (Colour Belt category).
Muhammad Firdaus Raub earned a bronze medal in the Open Hyperweight Sparring (Black Belt category).
According to Muhammad Firdaus, this milestone is especially meaningful as it marks the first time the UniKL BIS Taekwondo Team has competed in a championship outside of Peninsular Malaysia.
“The team faced several challenges leading up to the tournament. One of the main obstacles was the limited time for preparation, as the athletes had to juggle their training with academic commitments.
“However, these challenges were overcome through strong teamwork, with everyone working together to manage their schedules and support each other during training.
“The team’s dedication, along with the guidance from their instructors, helped them stay focused,” said team representative Muhammad Firdaus.
Notably, the UniKL BIS Taekwondo Club was only established in early 2024.
Starting from scratch, the club had to build a team, recruit members, and establish a consistent training routine.
“Despite being a newly formed club, the dedication and teamwork displayed by everyone helped us achieve success in a very short time,” he added.
