Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (UniKL MIAT) is well-positioned to enhance its profitability and prominence, particularly in the maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) sector.
Leveraging its extensive expertise and state-of-the-art facilities, UniKL MIAT has the potential to become a central hub for MRO services, according to YBhg. Datuk Wira Dr. Asyraf Wajdi Dato’ Dusuki, Chairman of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA).
During his working visit to the UniKL MIAT Subang Campus, Dr. Asyraf Wajdi emphasised the institution’s ambition to expand beyond its current educational and technical training offerings.
“We have really big ambitions; we aim not only to grow as a technical and skills provider but to significantly enter the MRO market,” he stated.
“This is the time to transform and tap all opportunities. My hope for MARA, MARA Corporation, and UniKL MIAT is to plan ambitiously for the future—not just for a five-year term, but for a ten-year term,” he said.
The visit, which took place on May 16th, 2024, included an inspection of key facilities such as the hangars and the Boeing 737-800 simulator.

UniKL MIAT holds the distinction of being the first Maintenance Training Organisation (MTO) recognised by the Department of Civil Aviation and was honoured by Frost and Sullivan as the Asia Pacific Aviation Workforce Development leader in 2008.
According to the ‘Laporan Kajian Pengesanan Graduan 2022’, UniKL MIAT boasts an impressive employability rate of 96.7%.
Notably, UniKL pioneered the introduction of the ‘Teaching Factory’ concept in 2013, integrating the HTVET model.
Currently, UniKL MIAT collaborates with around five on-campus partners for the ‘Teaching Factory’ concept, facilitating over 200 internship opportunities and generating over 150 job placements.
