Universiti Kuala Lumpur is set to play a pivotal role in advancing Malaysia–Türkiye higher education collaboration following the Second Joint Committee (JC) Meeting between both nations, held from 27 to 29 April in Pulau Pinang.
Positioned at the forefront of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) cooperation, UniKL has been appointed as co-chair of the Malaysia–Türkiye Technical Working Group (TWG), a key coordination platform established to plan, implement, and monitor bilateral initiatives in strategic technical fields.
The TWG, formed under the mandate of Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), brings together leading technical institutions from both countries to move beyond traditional academic exchanges towards high-impact, industry-driven collaboration.
As co-chair alongside Türkiye’s technical university representatives, UniKL will help steer the direction of joint initiatives, strengthen institutional linkages, and ensure alignment with national and international TVET priorities.

The JC Meeting culminated in the signing of Agreed Minutes, outlining a shared commitment to explore new areas of collaboration, including aerospace engineering, artificial intelligence (AI), digital transformation, sustainability, and green technology.
The committee meeting was co-chaired by Malaysia’s Minister of Higher Education, YB Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir, and President of the Council of Higher Education Türkiye (CoHE), H.E. Erol Özvar.
UniKL, represented by its President and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Ir. Dr. Azman Senin has expressed its readiness to support and operationalise these agreed outcomes through the TWG framework.
UniKL’s leadership role is further reinforced by its specialised institutional strengths.
For the record, UniKL Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (UniKL MIAT) serves as a national centre of excellence in aerospace education and training, positioning it as a key enabler in advancing aerospace-related collaborations with Türkiye.
In parallel, the Centre for Knowledge Artificial Intelligence, Learning & Automation (UniKL KAiLA), based at UniKL Malaysian Institute of Information Technology (UniKL MIIT), anchors the university’s capabilities in AI and digital technologies, supporting emerging areas identified under the bilateral partnership.
This development builds on UniKL’s longstanding relationship with Turkish institutions, particularly in the aerospace domain, where multiple academic, research, and mobility programmes have been established over the years.
As Malaysia advances its Higher Education Blueprint 2026–2035, UniKL’s involvement in the Malaysia–Türkiye partnership reflects its commitment to driving impactful international collaboration, particularly in high-technology sectors that will shape the future workforce.
