UniKL MESTECH recently embarked on a heartwarming initiative at Taman Tasik Cempaka, Bangi with 70-80 participants, proving that even small efforts can lead to significant change. Under the hashtag #smallbutmighty, students and faculty members combined community service with marketing, creating a day full of positive impact.
The initiative, in collaboration with the local authorities, particularly the Majlis Perbandaran Kajang, garnered significant support. Senior Assistant Environmental Health Officer, Siti Aminah, graced the occasion, bringing with her an exhibition showcasing various environmentally-friendly products and strategically placed dustbins for a plogging activity.
The highlight of the event was the plogging activity, where both students and visitors picked up litter while jogging around Taman Tasik Cempaka. This engaging endeavor successfully filled multiple dustbins, underscoring the collective effort to keep the environment clean and green.
The primary objective of the event was to increase awareness within the community regarding sustainable waste management practices. UniKL MESTECH aimed to enhance communication skills among their students, especially those pursuing Bachelor of Occupational Safety and Health and Bachelor of Environmental Health degrees. The event also sought to boost visibility among the public and establish collaborations with government agencies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
A comprehensive Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program was implemented to educate the community on sustainable waste management practices. The program included activities such as waste sorting workshops for children, a trash bingo puzzle, a coloring contest, and an exhibition featuring innovative solutions for waste management.
UniKL MESTECH’s initiative at Taman Tasik Cempaka exemplifies the university’s commitment to nurturing socially responsible graduates and fostering sustainable living practices within the community.
