Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) has proudly unveiled its inaugural list of the Top 120 alumni, a distinguished group selected from a remarkable 85,687 graduates since its establishment in 2002.
This momentous occasion was celebrated during the “Malam Apresiasi Alumni Universiti Kuala Lumpur 2024,” held on 25th August, a night filled with pride, recognition, and a renewed sense of community.
Adding to the evening’s significance, UniKL announced the 20th of August as Hari Alumni, forever marking the day of the university’s founding as a time to celebrate the achievements and contributions of its alumni.
In a gesture of giving back, the event saw a generous RM50,000 sponsorship from prominent alumni, with RM40,000 in cash and RM10,000 in service contributions.
The night also featured the introduction of three prestigious awards: the Outstanding Alumni Award in both Leadership and Community Service categories, and the 2024 Alumni of the Year Award.
Mohd Izwan Mazlan, a 2008 graduate of UniKL Malaysia France Institute (UniKL MFI), received the Outstanding Alumni Award in Leadership.
As the Chief Executive Officer of Perniagaan Mazlan & Hashimah (K) Sdn. Bhd, Mohd Izwan has received numerous accolades, including the Anugerah Usahawan Automotif PUNB 2022, Anugerah Usahawan Berjaya PUNB 2019 (Automotif), and the Ikon TVET MARA 2021.
The Outstanding Alumni Award in Community Service was bestowed upon Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Syafwan Adnan, a 2008 alumnus of UniKL Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP).
Dr. Syafwan is a trailblazer in his field. He served as the first Head of the Department for Emergency and Trauma Medicine at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and founded the Emergency Disaster and Crisis Center at SASMEC @ IIUM.
His work has earned him the title of the first Malaysian Fellow in Disaster Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
The pinnacle of the evening was the presentation of the 2024 Alumni of the Year Award to Amirudin Abdullah, a 2005 graduate of UniKL MFI and the visionary founder of Docto Aircond.
Amirudin has been recognised for his entrepreneurial excellence, including being named in the Top 100 Young Entrepreneurs (100 MIYE) for two consecutive years and achieving a Malaysia Book of Records recognition for the Fastest Construction of ‘FHYICU’ Buildings during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event also saw the launch of the UniKL Prominent Alumni e-Book and the Tabung Kebajikan Alumni (TKA) UniKL, further solidifying the university’s commitment to fostering a strong alumni network.
The evening was graced by the Chairman of UniKL, Dato’ Sri Sh Mohamed Puzi Sh Ali, alongside esteemed guests, including the Interim Chief Executive Officer of MARA Corporation Sdn Bhd, Dato’ Amir Azhar Ibrahim; a member of the UniKL Board of Directors, Emeritus Prof Dr. Kamaruddin Mohd Said; and the President/Chief Executive Officer of UniKL, Prof. Ir. Dr. Azman Senin.
