Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) was named first runner-up at the inaugural Kejohanan Sukan Pusat Islam Institusi Pengajian Tinggi Malaysia (KASPIM) 2025, securing eight gold medals and four bronze medals.
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) emerged as the overall champion with ten gold and 13 bronze medals, while Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) took third place.
Comprising 17 athletes from among UniKL’s staff members, the team was led by team manager Mohd. Fadhli Roslee, who praised the team’s performance despite the limited time for training.
“UniKL’s victory was made even sweeter by outperforming several prestigious universities. I am confident that UniKL will be even better prepared for the next edition of the games — and could very well emerge as the overall champion,” he said.
The championship, held from 25 to 27 July 2025 at UTeM, was organised by the Jawatankuasa Hal Ehwal Islam Institusi Pengajian Tinggi Malaysia (JAHIES). It brought together 18 local universities and 240 athletes.
In addition to UTM and UTeM, participating universities included Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), and Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP).
Events contested included the 8×50 meter relay, penalty kick football, penalty shoot netball, ping pong, traditional community games, and fishing.
UniKL secured gold in the Penalty Kick Football event through the solid teamwork of Ustaz Muhammad Iqbal Samadi (UniKL RCMP), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azman Yusof (UniKL MICET), Muhammad Nordian Kordi (UniKL RCMP), Ustaz Hasan Jali (UniKL MIIT), Mohd. Fadhli Roslee (CSD), and Muhammad Yusof Abdul Hadi (UniKL MICET).
Another gold was contributed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azman Yusof in the traditional community games event.
In the ping pong doubles event, UniKL brought home a bronze medal through the strong partnership of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kamaruzzaman Ismail (UniKL MFI), Dr. Wan Termizi Wan Mohamad (UniKL MIAT), and Ustaz Muhammad Iqbal Samadi (UniKL RCMP).
