Universiti Kuala Lumpur Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP) strengthened its commitment to inclusive technical and vocational education and training (TVET) through a professional massage therapy programme designed to equip Persons with Disabilities (PwD) with employable skills and pathways towards entrepreneurship.
Organised in strategic partnership with Pusat Aspirasi Anak Perak (PASAK), the Kursus Profesional Terapi Urutan bagi Program Latihan TVET OKU Fasa 2 Tahun 2026 concluded on 1 October 2026 after providing hands-on professional training to 19 participants from diverse OKU backgrounds.
The programme was conducted in two intensive four-day sessions from 21 to 24 September and 28 September to 1 October 2026 at the Electrotherapy Lab, UniKL RCMP.
Across eight days, participants developed practical competencies in massage therapy while gaining exposure to the fundamentals of running a sustainable business.
Training covered anatomy and ergonomics, muscle structures, therapeutic benefits and proper body mechanics to ensure safe and effective treatment for both therapists and clients.
Participants also underwent clinical laboratory training in targeted massage techniques involving the head, neck, back, face, shoulders, arms, abdomen and legs.
Their technical competencies were assessed through a practical evaluation requiring participants to demonstrate full-body traditional massage techniques in line with expected professional and industry standards.

Beyond technical training, the programme incorporated entrepreneurship modules aimed at helping participants translate newly acquired skills into income-generating opportunities.
Participants were introduced to the Business Model Canvas, customer identification, marketing strategies and operational cost management, providing them with foundational knowledge to explore self-employment and establish their own massage therapy services.
Head of the Industrial Linkages Department at UniKL RCMP, Dr Muhammad Zaki Ramli, said the initiative reflected the university’s commitment to making skills-based education more accessible while creating meaningful economic opportunities for underserved communities.

He reaffirmed UniKL RCMP’s role in advancing inclusive TVET education, skills development, employability and entrepreneurship, particularly through programmes that can strengthen the independence and economic participation of the OKU community.
The closing ceremony and certificate presentation were officiated by Mohd Fadhlie Khamis, Chief Assistant Director, Persons with Disabilities and Senior Citizens Development Division, Social Welfare Department (JKM) Perak.
He commended UniKL RCMP and PASAK for their collaborative efforts in providing practical skills training and business exposure that could help participants become more self-reliant and market-ready.
The initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education through inclusive skills-based learning; SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by promoting employability and entrepreneurship; and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities by expanding access to economic opportunities for Persons with Disabilities.
