Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) has successfully secured a total of RM562,876 under the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) awarded by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) for 2025.

The funding supports five cutting-edge research projects across various UniKL campuses.

The first grant was awarded to Dr. Muhammad Nubli Zulkifli from UniKL British Malaysian Institute (UniKL BMI) for his research titled “Harnessing Machine Learning for Microstructural Insights and Optimisation in Low-Temperature Solder and Its Effect on Mechanical and Electrical Performances.”

Also from UniKL BMI, Ms. Fahteem Hamamy Anuwar received funding for her project “Comparative Life-Cycle Assessment of Building Integrated Photovoltaic System with Semi-Transparent Photovoltaic Cells,” aimed at promoting sustainable building technologies.

From UniKL Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP), Dr. Muhammad Zulfiqah Sadikan secured RM115,676 for his research “Modulation of Nr2f2/HO-1 Signalling and Correction of Calcium Dysregulation in Early Diabetic Retinopathy Using Magnesium Acetyltaurate.”

His colleague, Dr. Judy Loo Ching Yee, was also awarded a grant for her study titled “Elucidation of Resistance Mechanism of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in Response to Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Nanoplastics: An Integrated Approach of Artificial Intelligence, Multi-Omics, and In Vitro Experimental Data.”

Meanwhile, Ms. Sabarina Abdul Hamid from the UniKL Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (UniKL MIAT) received funding for her project “Characterising Microstructural Evolution and Mechanical Properties of Solder Interconnection in Solar-Powered Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) Under Harsh Environments.”

The announcement of these research awards took place during the Festival of Ideas (FOI) held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) on 7 November 2025.

These five outstanding projects reflect UniKL’s strong commitment to driving innovative, industry-driven, and sustainable research across multidisciplinary fields, reinforcing the university’s role as a key contributor to Malaysia’s national research and innovation ecosystem.
