Three student teams from Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Chemical and Bioengineering Technology (UniKL MICET) secured podium finishes at the BEM Young Engineering Innovation Trophy 2026, demonstrating their capabilities in engineering innovation, applied learning and project development.
The national-level engineering competition, organised by the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), was held on 18 August 2026 at The Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur as part of the National Engineering Convention (NEC) 2026.
Competing against engineering and engineering technology students from across Malaysia, UniKL MICET recorded two First Runner-Up finishes and one Second Runner-Up finish in the Dublin Accord and Sydney Accord categories.
Under the Dublin Accord Category, Humaira Balqis Mohd A Pipi and Ahmad Zafir Zamri, supervised by Dr Wan Noor Aidawati Wan Nadhari, emerged as First Runner-Up. The team received a plaque, certificate and prizes worth RM2,000.

Another UniKL MICET team comprising Hawa Zahirah Rosshidi, Nur Aisyah Ahamad Sahiri and Ahmad Ahtiar Ahmad Amran, under the supervision of Dr Nazerah Ahmad, secured Second Runner-Up in the same category. The team received a plaque, certificate and prizes worth RM1,000.
In the Sydney Accord Category, Nur Izzati Alia Khairul Anuar and Puteri Elysa Elyna Muhamad Fairuskhan, also supervised by Dr Nazerah Ahmad, achieved First Runner-Up and received a plaque, certificate and prizes worth RM2,000.

Held under the theme “Engineering with Integrity in the Digital Age,” the competition provided a national platform for students to showcase Final Year Projects (FYP) and Integrated Design Projects (IDP) while demonstrating technical knowledge, creativity, problem-solving and professional engineering competencies.
The competition is open to students enrolled in Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC)-accredited engineering degree programmes, Engineering Technology Accreditation Council (ETAC)-accredited engineering technology degree programmes, as well as engineering and technology diploma programmes.

UniKL MICET’s achievement reflects Universiti Kuala Lumpur’s emphasis on industry-relevant engineering and technology education, where students translate classroom knowledge into practical solutions through project-based and experiential learning.

The achievement supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education through skills-oriented and experiential engineering education, as well as SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure by encouraging technological innovation and the development of future engineering talent.
