Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysia France Institute (UniKL MFI), through its MFI Interstellar team, triumphed in the university category at the Malaysia Rocket Competition 2024 (MRC 2024).
The team clinched first place in the Rocket 1-Kilometer and Can-Sized Satellite category during the event, held from September 3 to 5 at Felcra Seberang Perak, Perak.
The MFI Interstellar team, led by Associate Professor Dr. Norazwani, comprised six students specialising in welding technology and mechanical engineering.
They were guided by lecturers Ts. Dr. Farizah Adliza, Shahmal Fazzad, and Muhammad Sobri, whose expertise played a pivotal role in the team’s success.
According to Ts. Dr. Farizah, the competition ignites students’ passion for rocket technology and challenges their understanding and skills in developing cutting-edge systems.
She highlighted that the team’s achievement stems from their ability to design and build a functional rocket, complete with a telemetry system and a parachute for safe recovery.
“This achievement inspires UniKL MFI to remain committed to advancing rocket technology and to catalysing the development of Malaysia’s satellite launch vehicles,” she stated.
Organised by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and UiTM-MTC High Energy Material Research Laboratory (HEMREL), MRC 2024 brought together 45 teams from Malaysia, Singapore, India, and Indonesia, showcasing advancements in rocket and satellite technology.
MRC 2024 featured three competition categories: Rocket 1-Kilometer, Rocket 1-Kilometer with Can-Sized Satellite, and Can-Sized Satellite. The event provided a platform for students to engage in STEM fields, fostering innovation and nurturing the next generation of aerospace engineers.
