Universiti Kuala Lumpur Institute of Information Technology (UniKL MIIT) made history by earning recognition from the Malaysian Book of Records (MBOR) for completing the fastest Augmented Reality (AR) Fun Mural.
The AR-themed project saw over 100 participants, including UniKL MIIT students and lecturers, as well as students and teachers from Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Jalan Gurney 2, contributing to the remarkable feat.
Held from 17 to 19 August, the mural was completed in just 19 hours and 54 minutes—far below the 48-hour benchmark set by MBOR.
UniKL Chairman, Dato’ Sri Sh. Mohmed Puzi Sh. Ali, highlighted the significance of the project, stating that it aligns with the institution’s goal of nurturing highly capable students who will positively impact the nation.
“This initiative not only showcased our ability to complete the project in record time but also reflected the strong mental and physical resilience developed by the participants. I congratulate everyone involved.
“For the first time, we’ve created not just a mural but one that incorporates cutting-edge AR technology, symbolising the merging of art and digital advancement. It’s a national milestone that positions UniKL at the forefront of innovation,” he said during the closing ceremony of the project at SK Jalan Gurney 2 in Kuala Lumpur, on October 12.
The event also saw the attendance of UniKL Deputy President (Student Development and Campus Lifestyle), Prof. Dr. Zalizah Awang Long; Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) Wilayah Persekutuan Deputy Director (Development), Mohamad Saiffatullah Ahmad; and MBOR Head of Record Research and Analyst, Siti Nurhanim Mohd Noh.
Other notable guests included Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) Head of Tertiary Digital Talent and Entrepreneurship, Nik Hishamuddin Nik Mohd Yusoff, and SK Jalan Gurney 2 Principal, Jamilah Ariffin.
