A cross-cultural adventure in Surabaya, Indonesia, offered 15 students from 10 Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) campuses an eye-opening experience, broadening their global perspective and cultural understanding.
This initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, providing students with opportunities for inclusive, hands-on learning beyond traditional classrooms.
The nine-day outbound mobility programme, held from 13 to 21 December 2025, combined academic learning with cultural immersion, exposing students to entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence (AI), and Indonesia’s rich heritage.

By including students from diverse campuses, the programme also promotes SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, ensuring that all participants have equitable access to transformative educational experiences.
As part of the programme, students engaged with two major institutions in Surabaya, including Universitas Ciputra and Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS).
At Universitas Ciputra, students participated in hands-on learning activities that blended theory with real-world applications. Highlights included a photography class, an entrepreneurship course, and an AI entrepreneurship workshop.
Meanwhile, at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), students immersed themselves in Javanese culture through interactive programmes showcasing traditional arts, customs, and social practices.

A campus tour allowed them to explore ITS’s academic facilities and research initiatives, providing a glimpse into the university’s vibrant academic environment.
This exposure encourages students to appreciate diverse perspectives by giving them experiences beyond their home campus.
The cultural immersion extended beyond campus, with visits to iconic Surabaya landmarks such as Rumah Abu Han, Javasche Bank, Mount Bromo, and Rumah Abu The, giving students first-hand exposure to Indonesia’s history and traditions.

The learning journey continues in January through virtual classes with Universitas Ciputra and ITS.
This continued academic collaboration ensures ongoing knowledge-sharing and access to quality education for all participating students.
Note: In line with Malaysia’s aspiration to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) continues to strengthen and expand its efforts through various initiatives. This article specifically supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities).
