Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysia Italy Design Institute (UniKL MIDI) has achieved a new milestone with eight of its lecturers now certified in the Certificate in Railway Control Engineering Fundamentals (Module A) by the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (IRSE).
This certification underscores UniKL’s commitment to advancing railway signalling and telecommunications expertise—a highly sought-after skill in the industry—and reflects its ongoing collaboration with the UK-based licensing body to excel in specialised technical fields.
According to UniKL MIDI’s Deputy Dean of Student Development and Campus Lifestyle, Mohd Firdaus Hassan, these certified lecturers will now play an instrumental role in delivering the IRSE certification through the UniKL Asia Rail Centre, which is an authorised IRSE certification centre in Malaysia.
“The IRSE Module A certification process demands rigorous preparation, including extensive studying, practical training, and assessments. On average, it takes about 2 to 6 months, depending on the candidate’s prior experience and the IRSE’s assessment schedule,” said Mohd Firdaus.
“With a team of certified instructors, we are now ready to offer the IRSE certification through the Centre for Advancement & Continuing Education (ACE) at UniKL MIDI.”
The newly certified lecturers are Mohd Firdaus Hassan, Pusparini Dewi Abd Aziz, Dr. Zaridah Mat Zaid, Dr. Azlinda Ramli, George Samuel Koshy, Ts. Jupry Hamzah, Ts. Shukri Mohamed Salleh, and Mohd Fairus Humar.
UniKL’s partnership with IRSE, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on March 3, 2023, enables UniKL Asia Rail Centre to offer globally recognised Advanced Diploma and Certificate of Competency (CoC) courses in railway signal control systems.
As part of this collaboration, UniKL has been appointed as an assessing agency for signal control professionals, with evaluations conducted by the IRSE Malaysian Section, UniKL Asia Rail Centre, and the UK licensing body.
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by the Chairman of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) and UniKL’s Pro-Chancellor, YBhg Dato’ Dr. Asyraf Wajdi Dato’ Dusuki, and the British High Commissioner to Malaysia, His Excellency Charles Hay.
