Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) has outlined a 180-day engagement period with medical experts, industry professionals and MARA alumni to develop a proposed model for its first hospital, marking a significant step towards strengthening Malaysia’s healthcare education and services ecosystem.
MARA Chairman Datuk Wira Dr. Asyraf Wajdi Dato’ Dusuki said on 21 October 2026 that the proposed Hospital MARA would complement the agency’s existing network of healthcare education institutions, medical services and entrepreneurship initiatives.
He said the engagement process would involve former MARA students currently serving across various industries, allowing them to contribute professional expertise and insights towards developing a comprehensive hospital model.
The announcement was made following the launch of the MARA Dialysis Technical Excellence Centre (MARA DTEC) at TVET MARA Ledang in Tangkak, Johor.
According to him, the proposed hospital represents more than the development of a healthcare facility, as it is intended to integrate MARA’s existing strengths in education, training, entrepreneurship and healthcare services.
MARA already has an established healthcare ecosystem, including 160 U.n.i KLINIK, U.n.i Farmasi and U.n.i Dental outlets, alongside educational institutions that contribute to Malaysia’s healthcare workforce development.
Among these institutions is Universiti Kuala Lumpur Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP), which plays an important role in developing medical and allied health professionals through healthcare education and training.
As part of UniKL’s commitment to producing industry-ready graduates, UniKL RCMP offers programmes in medicine, nursing, pharmacy-related disciplines, physiotherapy and other healthcare fields, supporting the development of skilled professionals for Malaysia’s healthcare sector.
The proposed Hospital MARA could further strengthen connections between healthcare education and clinical practice, potentially creating additional opportunities for practical training, professional development and applied healthcare research within MARA’s wider ecosystem.
However, the initiative remains at the planning and feasibility assessment stage, with its operational model and implementation details yet to be finalised.
MARA previously announced the establishment of a dedicated task force on 24 August 2026 to advance the hospital proposal and assess its potential role within the agency’s healthcare network.
The initiative reflects MARA’s broader ambition to develop an integrated healthcare ecosystem that brings together medical education, technical expertise, healthcare services and entrepreneurship.
It also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
