It is a dream for many to build a career that reaches its peak, earning a top-tier salary while gaining international experience abroad.
For Ibrahim Hazly Mohamad Yusof, 40, that dream had once become a reality.
A 2006 graduate of Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (UniKL MIAT), Ibrahim Hazly carved out a successful career overseas, earning a five-figure salary with an Abu Dhabi-based maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) and integrated logistics company that serves both the military and civil aviation sectors.
Yet, after almost two decades in the aviation maintenance industry, Ibrahim made a life-changing decision, which was to return home.
Today, he proudly serves as a Licensed Aircraft Engineer (LAE) and instructor at Galaxy Aerospace Sdn Bhd, a leading local MRO company and one of UniKL MIAT’s strongest industry partners.
“From a financial perspective, working abroad does offer greater rewards. However, my decision to return to Malaysia was not driven solely by money.
“I felt it was time to contribute the knowledge, experience, and international exposure I had gained to Malaysia’s aviation industry,” he shared.
Ibrahim Hazly sees great potential in the country’s growing aviation landscape.
“Malaysia’s aviation industry is steadily expanding. There are many opportunities to be involved in the development of the local MRO sector, technical training, and impactful roles within organisations.
“It is not just about progressing as a technician anymore. It is about growing as a specialist in my field. And ultimately, Malaysia will always be my home,” he said.
As both a certified engineer and educator, Ibrahim Hazly finds deep satisfaction in his dual role.
At Galaxy Aerospace, he carries two complementary responsibilities in ensuring the safety and quality of aircraft maintenance and nurturing the technical skills of the next generation.
“It’s fulfilling to know that while I continue my engineering work, I am also helping shape the future professionals of Malaysia’s aviation industry,” he added.
Galaxy Aerospace’s connection with UniKL MIAT goes beyond employment.
The company operates within UniKL MIAT’s hangar under the Teaching Factory concept, providing students with a unique learning experience that integrates real industry operations into their academic training.
Through this partnership, UniKL MIAT students gain hands-on exposure during their internships, participating directly in aircraft maintenance, component replacement, and modification of existing systems.
Since 2019, Galaxy Aerospace has hosted 97 industrial trainees, with 87 of them later offered employment opportunities.
