Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Industrial Technology (UniKL MITEC) strengthened its role in advancing STEM education, technical and vocational education and training (TVET), and youth innovation by hosting the STEM Racing Malaysia National Finals 2025/2026.

Held over five days, the national competition brought together 48 elite student teams that had successfully progressed through rigorous state and zonal qualifying rounds.

It marked the second time UniKL MITEC was selected to host the prestigious engineering and motorsport-based competition.

Approximately 450 students, teachers, parents, school advisers and industry representatives attended the event, transforming the UniKL MITEC campus into a vibrant arena for engineering design, technological creativity and high-speed competition.

The closing ceremony was officiated by the Vice-Chancellor of UniKL, Prof. Dr. Kushsairy Abdul Kadir, together with Tuan Haji Mohd Kamal Hashim, Deputy Director of the Curriculum and Arts Sector, Ministry of Education Malaysia.

During the competition, students designed, developed and raced miniature Formula One-style cars while demonstrating their capabilities in engineering, aerodynamics, research and development, digital media and project management.

The challenge gave secondary school students practical exposure to the engineering design process, from generating an initial concept and producing a prototype to testing performance and presenting their work to evaluators.

Team TUAH from SMK Seksyen 9, Selangor, emerged as the STEM Racing Malaysia National Champion after recording an overall score of 840.5 marks.

The team further demonstrated its engineering excellence by securing the Best Engineered Car Award.

Team VENTUROX from Kolej Vokasional Sepang finished in second place with 787.0 marks, while Team MIRIFIC from Sekolah Seri Puteri secured third place with 771.0 marks.

The competition also recognised outstanding achievements across several specialised categories.

Team VENTO from Sekolah Berasrama Penuh Integrasi Gombak received the Best Scrutineering Award and won the Knock-out Race category.

Team CELEMAX from SMK King George V, Negeri Sembilan, secured both the Innovative Thinking Award and the Best Research and Development Award.

The Fastest Car Award went to Team VALCO RACING from The Malay College Kuala Kangsar, Perak.

In his closing address, Prof. Dr. Kushsairy reaffirmed UniKL’s commitment to developing a strong national STEM and TVET talent pipeline through initiatives led by its Centre for STEM Enhancement and TVET (CSET).

He encouraged the participating students to continue developing their interests in science, technology, engineering and mathematics and to consider UniKL as a pathway through which their early passion for innovation could be transformed into meaningful technical careers.

The STEM Racing Malaysia National Finals contributes to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
